You always knew when to drop me a note of encouragement or to show up for a surprise visit. Your last visit came shortly after my Mom (Dorothy) had passed away. The Baby Threads family had gathered to celebrate the soon to be open Out of Your Attic Thrift Shop Too and the new Baby Threads work area. As I turned to say hello to some of the folks who had gathered, I was so surprised to look up and see you coming through the door.
I felt so lifted up by your vibrant spirit and sense of humor. Your hug brought me strength and courage. I was, once again, surprised because I didn’t know that you were coming. I wanted to sit and visit forever, talk about your current projects, Baby Threads, and family. We enjoyed laughing again about how we had become friends by email, through Baby Threads, never realizing that your sister Carol was also a friend of mine.
After your last visit I decided to do something I had never done before. I wanted to do something special, personal, in your honor. I began to let my hair grow so that it could be donated for a wig for a cancer patient. I didn’t tell anybody about it. It was going to be my surprise gift. My hair is almost long enough to be cut now. It will be given in your memory.
One of the things I miss most about you right now is that I don’t need to pray for you everyday. I miss that little daily connection of thinking about and praying for you. You have moved on and are free from the cares of this world. I feel strongly that Dorothy was one of the people anxious to say hello and give you a big hug as you crossed into the next life. Sheila, thank you for the friendship we shared.
